Superior Wear Resistance With Compression Moulded Natural Rubber Cyclone Components
Multotec Process Equipment recently
upgraded its range of cyclone liners and launched a
new range of cyclone rubber spigots which
complements the already successful HC range of
cyclones.
The Multotec HC range utilises a combination of
steel housings and rubber liners for superior wear
properties in applications such as classification,
dewatering, and tailings deposition. |
“In order to maintain the success of these
cyclones and to keep their quality of design in line with
modern technologies and manufacturing methods, extensive
research and development efforts were made to develop
compression moulded replaceable liners and spigots,” Ian du
Plessis, process manager of capital projects at Multotec
Process Equipment, says.
Specialist moulds result in a cavity shaped part being
produced from a sliding section that presses down to form
the component. The heated moulds receive pre-cut and weighed
portions of the custom mixed Multotec Green formulation of
natural uncured rubber. This is placed into each respective
cavity and the moulds remain closed until the rubber is 100%
uniformly cured through the cross section of the component.
A substantial investment has been made in mould, which were
designed and developed by Multotec and manufactured by
independent tool shops with proven records of quality of
craftsmanship.
Multotec has broadened its production capabilities
facilitates fast turnaround. In-house manufacture of these
rubber components allows variable production volumes
enabling the company to serve the varying needs of its
customers in the processing sector. The new production
methods contribute to improved liner life, reduced capital
and spares lead times as well as consistent product
dimensions which reduces quality inspection times. “In
addition, manufacturing costs are reduced and these savings
will be passed on to the client,” du Plessis says.
The
product designers carefully selected the compound with a
definite set of properties. The same successful formulation
of Multotec Natural Green Gum Stock rubber has been used
with a slight adjustment to pigmentation for superior
resistance to heat and light as well as abrasion resistance,
making it ideal for use in cyclones.
The soft nature of the compound allows for easy installation
but it is practically incompressible and thus stores energy
to a greater degree than any other material.
Characteristics which were deemed desirable during the
design included low creep; resistance to weathering, heat
and cracking; ability to bond; high strength properties; and
cut and tear resilience for wear performance.
The new range of liners highlights Multotec’s focus on
quality as the new manufacturing process ensures dimensional
consistency and repeatability.
