Multotec Promotes Sustainability Through Life-Long Partnerships

Multotec believes in a philosophy of
life-time service partnership with its customers, resulting
in unparalleled value adds which have far-reaching
repercussions.
Thomas Holtz, CEO of the Multotec Group, points out that an
in-depth understanding of customers’ specific requirements
must of necessity lead to an extensive knowledge of their
operations, and the challenges of specifying and maintaining
the appropriate plant and equipment. “Productivity,
downtime, plant and equipment lifecycles all impact on costs
and hence on sustainability. At Multotec, we aim to provide
long term solutions which involve not just a model that
consists of supply, install and commission, but maintenance
as well.”
Multotec manufactures and supplies a comprehensive range of
products and services to the mining and minerals
beneficiation industries, and one of the advantages of being
a multi-product rather than single-product supplier is that
the Group has the economies of scale which can handle
maintenance on more than just one type of equipment
extremely cost effectively. The company supplies a range of
consumables within the minerals processing sector including
screen cloth, rubber mill liners and replaceable rubber
liners for cyclones.

“In addition to understanding processes
within minerals processing plants, which enables us to
optimise product performance, we add considerable further
value through our Multotec Hawkeye system,” adds Derrick
Alston, managing director of Multotec Manufacturing. Hawkeye
promotes optimum condition monitoring, providing accurate
reporting on product lifecycles and replacement rates so
that personnel can predict service intervals, thus also
optimising inventories of consumables. “Hawkeye is an
internet based system which covers the range of consumables
on a plant, including the provision of the correct parts
description, and where necessary, even the numbers for
re-ordering,” Alston continues.
Condition monitoring plays an important role in improving
plant efficiencies. It also ensures maximum availability and
reliability through the life cycle of the technology
investment. “In simplistic terms,” says Holtz, “consumable
equipment and components must be replaced, and these
replacement cycles can be optimised. This is where Hawkeye
comes into its own as a data management tool that can assist
in planning these activities in advance. This is
particularly the case when entire baskets of items – such as
screen, panels and side liners – are to be replaced at
different replacement cycles. Hawkeye achieves this with
maximum plant efficiency and wear life in mind.”
Hawkeye’s effectiveness is amply complemented by Multotec’s
own professionals who have extensive metallurgical and
practical plant experience which bring a depth of
understanding to the customers’ plant needs.
“This knowledge enables us to optimise product performance,”
continues Holtz. “Being involved in the full scale of
operations from supply to maintenance enables us to provide
invaluable support and advice to plant staff that are often
under huge pressure to maintain plant equipment with limited
resources and often without all the necessary skills. This
can result in equipment not achieving optimum life spans.
Our intimate understanding of the equipment allows us to
obtain maximum efficiencies from consumable parts which adds
value to clients, boosting operational performance and
reducing capex needs. Our partnerships with customers
guarantee this service over the full lifetime of any piece
of equipment.”
“We also have a superior perspective of the minerals
processing requirements within the various minerals sectors
that is renowned throughout the industry,” Alston points
out. “Furthermore, we can provide not only this applications
knowledge and our comprehensive basket of products, but a
strategically constructed branch network, specifically
designed to provide local support to our customers with
minimum delay.”
“It has been a tenet of our operating methodology to be
physically close to our customers,” Holtz continues. “Our
ability to respond quickly to customer needs has been
instrumental in strengthening relationships of trust. We are
also known and respected for our integrity and ethics, and
have a reputation for standing by our products. As a result,
the industry has faith in our ability to supply the most
appropriate product for any particular application.”
“We focus on getting it right first time,” Alston adds.
“Customers enjoy peace of mind because they know we are
committed to ensuring performance and reliability. We will
not shy away from challenges or teething problems but will
do whatever it takes to ensure that we achieve our
objectives. We have highly skilled and qualified engineers,
all considered experts in their specific fields and we
concentrate on implementing solutions not just selling
products. It’s not just about having the most appropriate
skills, but the culture that creates the environment for
them to function optimally. Our people have the right
attitude and a consciousness of accountability which ensures
that they will persevere until customers’ needs are
fulfilled.”
A black-empowered company since 2006, Multotec is committed
not only to South Africa and the upliftment of the wider
socio-economic environment of the many communities and
regions where it operates, but is also looking beyond the
country’s borders.
“We will be expanding further into African markets with all
our products,” says Holtz. “We already have significant
exposure on mill liners and screens and will be extending
our footprint internationally. We are also expanding the
reach of our service infrastructure through field service
maintenance in line with our philosophy of lifetime service
partnership with all our customers.”
