Continuous Ionic Filtration (CIF®) from Multotec can achieve water recoveries of up to 95% and higher in various applications like mining, industrial and municipal process water treatment. It is also proven highly effective for metals recovery, including base metals recovery.
The CIF® water treatment process simultaneously removes dissolved salts (TDS) and suspended solids (TSS) from process water.
Multotec partnered with Australian company Clean TeQ to introduce continuous counter-current ion exchange technology to the African market. The process water treatment technology is now available worldwide from Multotec – helping global companies reduce operating and capital costs.
CIF® addresses acid mine drainage, treats a range of mine waters and achieves zero liquid discharge in your application.
CIF® treats ground or surface water and recovers valuable nutrients at a lower cost than traditional methods.

CIF® has high solids handling capabilities and is flexible to changing feed conditions. It has the potential to recover valuable by-products and is able to achieve zero liquid discharge (ZLD). A few additional features include:
Filter, separate and purify process water with lower costs and maintenance. The modular full-scale and mobile CIF® range for process water treatment consists of single stage CIF®, dual stage DeSALx® and HiROx® to remove both cations and anions from feed waters.
The CIF® water treatment solution consists of the following stages:
Single Stage CIF® for targeted element removal and de-alkalisation applications.

In mining and industrial process water treatment, water should be considered a revenue stream instead of something to treat and dispose. These wastewaters from many mines contain valuables and some mines are currently relooking at ways of using recycled water to produce revenue.
The Continuous Ionic Filtration® (CIF®) technology developed by Clean TeQ and used by Multotec in its process water treatment and solid liquid separation applications is, in fact, metal recovery technology.
This technology has evolved to become a dual-purpose treatment as it is often used purely as a water treatment solution. Technologies like this help companies achieve zero liquid discharge (ZLD), among other treatment processes, in mine water treatment among others.
Multotec has invested in a 1 m³/h two-stage test rig which is available for piloting the CIF® technology.
