Multotec supplies the shaking fluidised bed dryer, sourced from its sister company Tema Process . The fluidised bed dryer is a highly efficient drying system designed for various industries requiring precise and thorough thermal or physical treatment of materials. It is used in thermal treatment applications such as drying, cooling, calcining/texturisation, torrefaction, puffing, sterilisation & pasteurisation, blanching and steam stripping/inert gas drying. It is used in agglomeration and dedusting applications. The shaking fluidised bed dryer is suitable for various industries, such as minerals, chemicals, waste management, and food & feed.
This product is particularly beneficial for industries that need effective final drying processes to achieve a thoroughly dry product. In the food industry, it enhances taste, flavour, and texture. It also supports the biomass sector by improving product quality for fuel combustion and gasification. It also serves the feed industry by expanding products like rice and wheat under high temperatures to enhance their cooking properties. This product can also deactivate enzymes as well as sterilise and pasteurise spices, herbs, dried vegetables, seeds, and nuts.
Our shaking fluidised bed dryer offers a range of different types of fluid beds and dryers that perform various applications depending on the material and drying requirements.
The dryer uses a series of processes that result in the efficient drying of various materials. It spreads the wet material across a perforated air distribution plate. This allows hot air to enter the fluid bed through a wind box located underneath the plate, blowing air through the perforations to lift and fluidise the wet material. This enables solid particles to move like a fluid, maximising the heat and moisture transfer between the drying air and the material.
The air velocity for drying is carefully controlled to keep the product in a fluidised condition during the drying process. Additionally, the same system can be utilised for cooling materials by allowing ambient or cooled air to enter. As the air passes through the material and removes moisture, it exits the system via a suction hood. This hood has an expanded structure to reduce the airflow speed, preventing larger particles from being carried away.
The product being dried moves through the dryer with a gentle shaking motion using low-frequency and high amplitude. This ensures a step-by-step uniform manner called the “plug flow” where the first material to enter is the first to exit. This process allows for even and controlled drying. The shaking motion enhances the fluidisation behaviour, particularly when dealing with various particle sizes. It also facilitates the effective movement of sticky or inhomogeneous materials.
