Developing skills the right way: Nomthandazo Nkosi
It is said that ‘blessed are those who trust in the Lord’ and that patience is not the ability to wait but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.
I thank God for the opportunity that Multotec has given me. I studied travel and tourism which back then was what I believed to be my passion, but after my current workplace-based learning experience with Multotec I have been exposed to endless opportunities to build a career I’m passionate about.
For the past 7 months I have learned so much about how to handle stores, rules, laws and the right way to work in a warehouse, to the extent that I’ve reconsidered changing career because of what I learnt in the SSM department.
I have learned a lot from SSM. It has amazing people who taught me beyond the limits…a continuity from a foundation of machine assembling - a skill my uncle taught me when growing up. The course has taught me so many things I did not know I could pursue as a career outside of the traditional careers such as law, medicine and being a police officer.
There are considerable technical career paths to explore within my department. An opportunity to be part of Multotec as a learner has given me more than workplace experience; it has given me the light and a new start of a lifetime career.
Most people when growing up desire to be pilots, doctors and teachers but I aspire to be the first artisan/ field service technician in my family. I cannot begin to express my gratitude to Multotec, our skills development officer, my mentor, and my team for the wonderful opportunity and first-hand experience.
