For Production and Beyond
After the Grid tie Solar panel project was completed in 2021, we commenced with our next major project. We needed a way to combat the scheduled and unscheduled blackouts caused by load-shedding and the failing infrastructure in our area. These interruptions disrupt production, affecting the bottom line. The innovation was put to paper and our vision for generator-supported production became a reality.
All the critical production plants were taken into serious consideration, with tested online voltage, KW and Amps on the main transformers, making sure essential production processes were included. We identified Injection Moulding and the PU Shop as the focus for the first phase.
The project kicked off in October 2021. Various electrical engineers, contractors and internal stakeholders were involved, under the watchful eye and planning supervision of Marius Swanepeol. The entire facilities team banded together to make sure the project was a success, with numerous hours of behind the scenes planning taking place.
Our 750 Kva generator (aka “the Beast”) was installed and runs the whole of the Injection Molding, PU Shop and Toolroom within its full capacity. This Genset was equipped to produce 1200 Amps running between 75-80 % of its operating capacity, with ease. It contains a 1000 litre diesel tank that can keep production running for up to 10 hours. We later installed a super silent exhaust system, making the decibel levels acceptable to the office staff and personnel of surrounding companies.
For perspective, we had 20 hours of load-shedding between 8 and 13 March 2022. This would have meant the loss of a full day of production, prior to the installation of the Beast.
We are now proud owners of 13 Gensets, which include those installed at Wedge Wire, Rubber Division, Cyclones, Pumps and Flotation division. All our compressors are fed through these generation units.
