From the Frozen Tundra to the Scorching Desert – Multotec Eurasia Business Unit

Multotec’s presence in Europe and Asia

EURASIA

Our territory stretches from western Europe right through to the eastern edge of Asia. This encompasses some of the most remote parts of the world (Siberia, Tian Shan Mountains and the Mongolian Steppe to name a few), with temperatures ranging from +50 degrees in summer to -50 degrees in winter.

Falling under the banner of Multotec International and headed by General Manager Tatiana Savelyeva, this sales territory focuses on the following areas: Belarus, Kazakhstan/Central Asia, China/Mongolia, Middle East, India/ Pakistan, Turkey, and Europe. Such a diverse portfolio offers us a host of new cultures, languages, religions, and ethnic groups, as well as its own opportunities and challenges.

Focus

Our focus is to maintain current relationships with our existing customers as well as identify and develop new relationships for future business.

This is mainly achieved by increasing Multotec’s brand exposure and extending market reach. This is supported by the strategy of creating closer and more personal relationships with each of our customers, by showing a stronger onsite presence in each of our regions and by offering superior service with a friendly and helpful demeanor.

Challenges

Some of the biggest challenges we experience are having to deal with language barriers, cultural differences, climate changes, and being away from home for extended periods…Yes, homesickness is a real thing!

The Eurasia team generally travels for periods of one to four weeks depending on the nature of the business. Mine visits can take place at 4500 m above sea level, where everything is frosted in white and unbelievably cold, or alternatively 52 degrees Celsius with no air-conditioner! Visiting these places and meeting new people, not to mention tasting different cuisines - if your tummy can handle it, is however usually a pleasant perk.

Impact

With the team showing a more assertive presence in each of their regions, not only by visiting existing customers and identifying new potential business but also by participating in mining expos and trade shows, there has been an upward trend on the number of new customers/mines added to our database - with new enquiries converting into sales.

This has undoubtedly created a more positive Multotec brand awareness. This has also allowed us to utilise the expertise of our colleagues in China at Multotec Screening Systems, which we appreciate very much.
