Rhodes Nelson, Managing Director - Multotec Manufacturing
The last two years have seen very favourable commodity prices in the market. This, together with the world reconfiguring to a post COVID-19 environment and the war in Ukraine, has resulted in fantastic opportunities for Multotec. Unfortunately, without the correct capacities, we would not be able to benefit from the market opportunities. It is therefore essential that we allow for this for the benefit of all stakeholders going forward.
With the capacity in mind, over the last six months, we have investigated creating a new injection moulding facility at one of our more recently purchased properties. The plan is to join both 16 and 18 Forge Road properties and build a state-of-the-art factory that will house all our injection moulding requirements for the foreseeable future.
The facility will include all injection moulding machines (both big and small), a toolroom facility, and a warehouse for raw material storage and storage to house the finished good fast movers. It will also allow for at least 25 % growth in volume in the future. The total factory area will be about 4 350 m 2.
With the additional space, we will also look at increasing our efficiencies with a tool staging area, improved material management and flow and an opportunity to implement some 4IR concepts in the foreseeable future.
This opportunity will also create space for some of our other factories to be reconfigured to yield improved efficiencies. We are currently finalising the project plan and looking at our financing options for the project. At this point, the timeline would be for us to break ground at the end of January 2023. The project is estimated to take 12 months to complete.
