Heavy minerals conference

The Heavy Minerals Conference 2025 once again brought together industry experts to share knowledge and shape the future of the sector. Attending on behalf of Multotec were Bart Malan, Faan Bornmann, Menzi Xulu, and Dawie van Eeden.

While the conference has traditionally focused on mining and processing, this edition marked a noticeable shift. Conversations explored how the industry can move closer to downstream industries, improving integration and value chain optimisation. Another key theme was the growing demand for strategic minerals, including rare earth elements, which present exciting opportunities but also call for new approaches to mining and processing.

Generational knowledge transfer also featured as a priority, ensuring future professionals are equipped through traditional training as well as new approaches including artificial intelligence.

Multotec played a leading role, with Bart Malan chairing the event. Faan Bornman delivered a paper on retention time in mineral sands recovery, chaired a Think Tank on knowledge retention, and led the analysis session. Menzi Xulu also presented on advancing slurry transport in mineral processing.
