Industry accolade for Multotec Managing Director, Spike Taylor
The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining Southern Africa (IOM³) has acknowledged Spike Taylor, managing director of Multotec Rubber, for the significant role he has played in the industrial rubber industry since 2002.
Spike was awarded the John Tallant Medal for Outstanding Merit at the 24th IOM³ National Rubber Conference, held in Cape St Francis, in April this year.
He explains that the local arm of the international IOM³ was established more than 60 years ago and is made up of representatives of the South African industrial rubber sector. Spike, who has a B.Sc. Engineering Metallurgy degree, began his career at De Beers and in 1985 joined Multotec as a sales engineer. He progressed through the organisation’s ranks and, in 2009, was appointed managing director of Multotec Rubber.
Multotec Rubber, under Spike’s leadership, has worked hard to keep the division at the forefront of technology. This was done so customers will appreciate that liners providing the correct size of mill product ensure the highest recovery of metal or mineral in the downstream equipment. He also drove the initiative that saw the company implement MultoScan for the accurate measurement of rubber mill liners.
True to form, in his acceptance speech at the Conference, Spike said that he thought there were other people more deserving than him when it came to the award. But, obviously IOM³ thought otherwise and so do we.
