Local manufacturing drives innovation: Multotec pump operations reach new heights

Multotec’s pump operations are redefining industry standards by prioritising local manufacturing, resulting in significantly shorter lead times times, enhanced product availability, and unmatched cost-effectiveness for clients.

By localising production of both pumps and spares, the company is not only strengthening its presence in the African mining sector but also offering high-performance solutions designed for the harshest environments.

Advancing pump technology and performance

A key highlight in this year’s operations is the ongoing development and testing of the Oryx pump range. The Oryx pump is designed for slurry applications, with a focus on increased performance, reduced wear and ease of maintenance.

Engineered to excel in these conditions, the Oryx range was developed to date and has recorded an increase in efficiency, whilst allowing for lower energy consumption.

The Oryx pump, which will be featured at The upcoming Electra Mining show can operate at higher efficiency with lower speeds, reducing wear rates and extending the life of the pump.

Tailored for chemical resistance

In addition to improved performance, Multotec now supplies a broader range of specialised, acid-resistant materials for the pump line.

To meet specific industry applications with abrasive and corrosive chemicals the company offers components in:

  • Ferralium 255
  • High-Chromium Stainless Steel
  • White Iron
  • Natural rubber
  • Butyl rubber
  • Nitrile rubber

These specialised materials, combined with the new local manufacturing of Improved Wear Design (IWD) components, directly increase pump efficiency and reduce energy usage for clients.

Improvements: focus on serviceability and Efficiency

  1. Streamlined maintenance: the ‘SPA’ base
Multotec has introduced the manufacturing of its ‘SPA’ (Single Point Adjusting) pump/motor base. This innovation directly addresses maintenance downtime, allowing for adjustment, repair, or replacement to be operated by a single person, drastically reducing downtime and lowering the cost of ownership.

  2. Production and logistics flow
To improve our lead times and availability, we are keeping stock of all critical and fast-moving pump items for all our customers ranges to have an advantage over our competitors’ availability.

December Sikhosana has also implemented special storage rack dividers for all the spares in the pumps warehouse. This innovation/improvement makes stock takes and cycle counts faster and easier, ensuring smoother inventory control and higher accuracy.

  3. Commitment to localised service
Multotec’s dedication to local manufacturing remains a cornerstone of its operations. From the production of components to performing on-site repairs, the company ensures that it supports local industries and builds capacity, providing high-quality products and equipment.

Mark your calendar for Electra Mining 2026

Multotec will be showcasing these advancements at Electra Mining later this year. The stand will feature the complete, locally manufactured Oryx pump with the new sliding base, highlighting the company’s ability to deliver tailored, high-performance solutions.
