Multotec empowering Rustenburg communities

LINDIWE KABINI

Internal Auditor – Multotec

At Multotec, caring for our community is not just a responsibility – it is part of who we are. Our commitment to sustainable community development is strengthened through collaboration with valued partners and customers who share this vision.

Tapologo is a non-profit organisation that was established in 1988, caring for the poorest of the poor in their homes at a time when HIV/Aids was at its worst. In 2022, Tapologo established the Tapologo Training Institute, offering accredited healthcare worker training. Impala Platinum, one of Multotec’s valued customers, generously supported this initiative by awarding bursaries to 30 students from the local community in 2022, and another 30 in 2023. All 60 students successfully qualified and began working for Tapologo.

Recently, Multotec had the privilege of delivering umbrellas to these dedicated home-based caregivers working for Tapologo, as well as stationery to learners at Tsholofelo Community Project in Freedom Park, Rustenburg.

The umbrellas were donated to support the hardworking caregivers at Tapologo, who provide essential daily care and assistance to vulnerable members of the community.

The home-based caregivers render services to five villages surrounding the mines: Boitekong, Luka, Kanana, Phokeng and Freedom Park.

Notably, 90% of the caregivers who received the donated umbrellas are graduates of the Impala bursary programme.

This demonstrates a powerful impact and investment from the mining sector into community education and skills development through Tapologo, ultimately leading to employment, with trained caregivers now serving the very communities they come from.

The stationery donation to Tsholofelo Community Project aims to empower learners by equipping them with the necessary tools to support their education and future success. These are children between the ages of 6 and 16 who were previously taken from the streets and were not attending school.

The day was filled with gratitude, unity, and a shared sense of purpose. Moments of joyful singing between attendees and community members served as a reminder that true impact is built on human connection.

This is a compelling example of sustainable upliftment achieved through strong partnerships between corporate organisations, customers, and community institutions. When we uplift communities together, we build resilience, opportunity, and a stronger future for all. This initiative reflects our continued focus on making a tangible and lasting difference in the communities in which we operate.

The handover was attended by Johan Coetzee, Elmarie De Witt, Lindiwe Kabini, Isaac Matlala, Thabo Morei, and representatives from the Multotec Rustenburg team.
