Multotec graduates made possible by the Multotec bursary

Multotec has been running a bursary and graduate programme, impacting the talent pool of engineers. 
In any given year, Multotec has six bursars in the engineering fields of metallurgy, chemical engineering, mechanical/mechatronics, and has now added industrial engineering. 
Multotec supports students throughout their academic years through financial assistance and workplace exposure, where they spend approximately six weeks a year during the June/July and November/December university recess periods. This allows them to learn about Multotec and what the company does. They work closely with an engineer who can mentor and guide them. 
We are proud of them for utilising the opportunity to the best of their abilities, and now they are reaping the benefits. 
Below are stories of some graduates who completed their studies between 2024 and 2025 and are now on the graduate programme as Engineers In Training (EITs). Read their success stories in their own words.

LANDI MEYER

Completed: Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Engineering
Position: Engineer in Training – Continuous Improvement Department

My name is Landi Meyer.
Opportunities have a way of shaping futures, and Multotec did exactly that by investing in my development through their bursary programme, which enabled me to pursue my BEng in industrial engineering at the University of Pretoria and graduate cum laude.

Throughout my studies, Multotec’s vacation work programme gave me hands-on exposure to real-world engineering and operational challenges, going far beyond what I could learn in theory. Being entrusted with meaningful responsibility, even as a student, reflected the company’s commitment to developing future talent and played a key role in my personal and professional growth. What left a lasting impression on me was Multotec’s culture of collaboration and mentorship. Everyone was approachable, willing to teach, and genuinely invested in helping me learn and grow. 

It is with great pleasure that I will be joining the team as a full-time engineer in training from February 2026, and I look forward to continuing to grow and learn alongside some of the best in the industry.

THABO MOSIA

Completed: Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics
Current Position: Engineer in Training – Internet of Things Department (the first engineer in his family)

My name is Thabo Mosia. I am 26 years old.
My university journey in engineering was financially challenging until I received a bursary from Multotec. My parents passed away when I was three years old, and I was raised by my aunt (my father’s sister), whom I regard as my mother.

She is a teacher and was able to assist me financially where she could. However, engineering studies require a lot of expensive equipment, and accommodation was costly in Potchefstroom. It was very hard for my mother to support both me and my brother (my cousin), who was also a student, until I received a sponsorship from Multotec that covered all my expenses. They ensured I had everything I needed to complete my studies and even offered me vacation work during the holidays to gain practical experience. Today, I am the first engineer in my family, and I work in Multotec’s IoT department, a perfect alignment with my mechatronic engineering studies. 

I’m excited to be a permanent employee at Multotec, and my family is happy too. Now I won’t have to stress about job hunting.

AMORY MINNAAR

Completed: Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering 
Current Position: Engineer in Training – R&D 

My name is Amory Minnaar. 
I’m a 23-year-old chemical engineering graduate, and my journey with Multotec began as a bursary student during my studies. Through vacation training and hands-on test work, I was exposed to mineral processing equipment early on, spending time on rigs, getting my hands dirty, troubleshooting problems, and learning directly from experienced technicians and engineers. These experiences shaped the way I approach engineering and gave me a strong practical foundation long before my final-year project began.

During my final year, I had the opportunity to build on this foundation by working on a research project in collaboration with Multotec, where I investigated non-conventional hydrocyclone cone designs and their impact on separation performance. This project allowed me to combine industry insight with experimental work, data analysis, and reporting, bringing my academic journey full circle.

Transitioning into my role at Multotec now feels like a natural next step, and I’m excited to continue learning, growing, and contributing in an environment that played such an important role in my development as a young engineer.

JACQUELINE MOKOKA

Completed: Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering
Current Position: Engineer in Training – R&D

My name is Jacqueline Mokoka.
I am a young female who dared to dream of working in a male-dominated industry. I come from a family of graduates. My elder brother is also a chemical engineer, together with my twin sister, which contributed to motivating me to pursue this career.

My journey began when I enrolled for chemical engineering at North-West University, and towards the end of my first year, I was awarded a bursary from Multotec for my second year in 2021. This bursary provided not only financial support but also valuable exposure to real-life engineering applications through ongoing practical training during my studies, until I completed my qualification in 2024.

After completing my degree, I was offered the opportunity to join Multotec as an engineer in training as part of my work-back period. That work-back later became a permanent job offer. Within my first year, I stepped into additional responsibilities, including assisting with supervision and client handling following staff resignations.

This experience allowed me to develop leadership and client-facing skills. With the continued support of my manager, Faan, and the Technology Division team, I am constantly learning, growing, and gaining exposure to real-world engineering challenges.

The idea of being permanent gives me a sense of security and stability, as I now know that I can settle in Kempton Park and build my life here alongside my career. It took away the fear of the unknown about what would come the following year when the contract ended.

SANELE MNTUNGWA

Completed: Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering

My name is Sanele Mntungwa. I was born and raised in the warm city of Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.

I was lucky to be able to go to school and matriculated in 2019. I was then fortunate enough to chase my dreams and began my tertiary studies in mechanical engineering at the University of Pretoria in 2020. It was during this time that my journey with Multotec began.

In September 2022, I received a call from Multotec that completely and fundamentally altered the course of my life. I received the Multotec bursary. 
With help from Multotec, I was able to successfully complete my studies on time and graduated as a mechanical engineer at the end of 2023. A dream accomplished.
The opportunity to chase such dreams is a privilege that unfortunately many are not afforded. I will forever be grateful to Multotec for this opportunity, as well as the L&D team who managed and coordinated everything behind the scenes and with me to ensure that my university experience was smooth and that I received the necessary development during that time.

The all-encompassing Multotec bursary allowed me to direct my full attention towards my studies and alleviated the financial stress on my family, which had an immediate impact on my academic performance and greatly eased the strain on my family, who at the time were making significant sacrifices in support of me and my studies.
One of the great perks of the Multotec bursary was the opportunity to gain work experience through vacation work during my university recess breaks. This was also a requirement for the completion of my studies. I was able to complete this requirement and also had the opportunity to synthesise and make greater sense of what I was learning at university by applying it practically in a work environment.

Another opportunity many are unfortunately not afforded is being able to find work directly after completing their studies. In 2024, directly after I completed my studies, I was contracted by Multotec as an EIT (Engineer In Training). For the first time in my life, I had this thing called a tax number. Wow (I soon learned this wasn’t as great as I had imagined).
