Multotec launches three Learnership Programmes for current employees

On 1 February 2016, Multotec launched 3 Learnership Programmes for current employees as part of the company's continued efforts to develop our employees’ skills whilst embracing the National Skills Development Strategy and the BBBEE codes. This is a first for the Multotec Group and after a gruelling selection process 41 successful employees we were able to commence with the programme.

The process started in the latter half of 2015 when employees were given an opportunity to apply for a learnership position, where the learnership was relevant to their current job role. Over 60 employees applied, 50 employees were interviewed and completed Maths and English literacy assessments and final placements were made.

Twenty employees are enrolled into the Production Technology Learnership Programme that aims to develop the skills of employees in order for them to be able to further support manufacturing, engineering and technology processes.

Twelve employees have been enrolled into Multotec’s Polymer Compound Manufacturing Learnership, the aim of which is for learners to understand manufacturing processes in the polymer compound manufacturing sector and understand production requirements in their own area of work.

Nine employees have been enrolled into the Injection Moulding Learnership Programme  where the purpose of the qualification is to provide learners with the range of learning required to satisfy the challenges of participating effectively in the plastics manufacturing industry

The programmes provide a structured learning process for gaining theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the workplace, with access to knowledgeable mentors in the company. All programmes lead to a National Qualification on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

Robert: “The learnership is very good. It is a foundation for me, It will add more value especially at the place where I am. “

Khaya: “The learnership is informative and demands the whole of you as a person: knowledge and experience. It requires a lot of reading.”

Vusi: “ It is going to help me a lot in my current job based on what we have learnt so far. It is going to be useful to me to understand production processes when targets are set.”

Andrew: I am personally thankful that I am now empowering myself. There is a lot of progress so far in terms of knowledge I am receiving. I thank Multotec.”

Ronnie: “ I have learnt a lot from the learnership. It helps me to grow mentally and have a positive attitude towards realising my goal – going to level 6 and management will be proud of us. This is a good investment from the company. Going back to our departments we will encourage our colleagues. Thank you very much for believing in us. We will not disappoint you!”

Joseph: “I feel very much empowered. I earnt a lot. It teaches us about our personalities, about production, about having a good approach to people when being a leader. When we complete the course please let us continue to the next level. It will even improve our English: how to pronounce and speak English fluently.”

In addition, Multotec launched a Learnership in End User Computing. This learnership targets ten unemployed learners (with no obligation of permanent employment at the end of the learnership) and the main focus of the programme is for learners to acquire knowledge and skills of end-user computing in the workplace and equip them with the practical skills they need to launch a professional career within an industry of their choice.

Laura: “It’s exciting because you get to learn a lot of different things. We are gaining a lot of work experience which is opening doors for us.”

Kabelo: “ It’s quite fascinating because it has broadened my knowledge in computers. I’m able to compile a presentation on my own. It has given me motivation to get up early in the mornings.”

Olga: “ The learnership is a great programme. I have learnt new skills, not just computers. I also learnt to work with the team – my colleagues.”

Leigh: “ It took us from sitting in locations and doing nothing to learning about computers which we would not have exposure to except in internet café’s. It helped me to become a breadwinner at home instead of depending on my parents.”

It's not a given that all the learners will finish their programme – it's up to the individuals to show that they have the right attitude and aptitude, having been given this unique opportunity. We wish all our learners much success this coming year!
