Multotec Mozambique is 'Pinking Out'

What is Breast Cancer?
The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines breast cancer as a disease in which cells in the breast grow out of control. Breast cancer is often found in women, men can also get it but rarely.
According to the NBCC "National Breast Cancer Coalition" the annual estimated number of positive cases for breast cancer in women will be around 290 000.
It is against this backdrop that ladies of Multotec Services Mozambique (MSM) decided to be part of this year`s “OCTOBER PINK” to help make a difference in creating awareness about breast cancer. This was done by wearing “pink” as a way of standing out and getting the message through. The MSM ladies resolved to have all October Fridays as “Pink Friday” where, besides being in pink, they will also lead the day`s DSS (Morning safety dialogue) and hold an all-ladies awareness afternoon session.
All this was done to try and get the awareness campaign to reach not only the MSM workers but also their immediate families and the community at large.
What causes breast cancer?
Genetic alterations directly related to cellular biology.
What are some of the common symptoms or warning signs?
■ Swelling and irritation in the breasts
■ Hardened nodules
■ Emergence of lump in the breast or underarm
■ Pain in any area of the breast
■ Nipple discharge other than breast milk
What can be done to prevent it?
Breast cancer cannot be completely prevented, but there are some recommendations that help reduce or lower the risk of developing it:
■ Not abusing alcohol
■ Keeping a healthy weight
■ If possible, breastfeeding your children
■ Exercising regularly
■ Having regular mammograms, especially women over 40 should go for an annual check-up
