Johan Robbertse - Group Financial Director
As part of Multotec group’s ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) strategic initiatives, it started with the installation of solar panels in 2019. To date 6 projects have been completed across various properties in the group, from Spartan to Benoni as well as in Pretoria.
The combined power generation delivered by these projects is just short of 1.4 megawatt per hour. The impact of these projects, not only in terms of clean power produced, but also in saving our environment is as the table below.
Multotec continues to evaluate the best and most efficient environmental solutions, not only for power generation, but also for water harvesting and recycling. We challenge our employees to come up with innovative ideas contributing to the welfare of our planet.
Unfortunately, load shedding has forced the company to also install generators at various factories to keep operations running. This was of critical importance for continuous, and especially heated processes, to prevent cooling down of equipment. Phase 1 of this installation has been completed allowing Multotec to continue operating almost unaffected by load shedding and thereby ensuring timeous deliveries to our customers.
We continue to work closely with our customers, including various coal mines, and Eskom, to ensure the delivery of good quality coal to the power stations, thereby producing energy with the least pollution. We also provide extensive support services to assist them in minimising downtime on the various plants. This is a national problem that can only be resolved by everyone playing a role in the solution.
