Showcasing Innovation at Multotec: Sieve bend housing

This sieve bend housing innovation was developed by Adele Kruger, Project Planner & Administrator, with support from Mlamuli Hlatshwayo, Boilermaker at the Multotec Manufacturing steel shop

Problem statement:

Sourcing alternate type material to save on speed and cost.

On the sieve bend housings product, Adele had difficulty sourcing material, as the supply of unequal angle irons has been scarce since the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Projects Division requested the drawing office review the housing and replace the UE angle with a fabricated bracket. Drawings have been revised and the first set of housings were sent out.

This is a time saving innovation, from Multotec.

Description of innovation:
This is a time- and cost-saving innovation as the sourcing and handling of material have been improved. The need for waterjet cutting has also fallen away, further saving costs.

Cost saving:
6-metre Angle: 100 x 100 x 8 = R1 800.00
Required 1 660 mm = R498.00 + R500.00 cutback cost
= R998 per item 3 (2 required per housing)
Bend plate bracket price R265.00 each
