Success of the West Africa Seminar

The Multotec West Africa Technical Seminar, held in Abidjan from June 19 to 21 2024 was a resounding success.

Hosted by Multotec, the event featured key representatives such as Godwin Dzwairo, General Manager of Multotec West Africa, Rodrigue Douamba, Area Sales Manager for West Africa – French-speaking region, and Bente Diallo, Sales Engineer for West Africa.

The seminar attracted 32 participants from eight mines across West Africa. These participants came from major operations including Agbaou Gold Mine, Endeavour Ity Gold Mine, Kinross Tasiast, Barrick Tongon, Orezone Bomboré, Tietto Minerals, Endeavor Houndé Gold Mine, and Wahgnion Mine.

Seminar highlights and presentations

Specialists from Multotec South Africa delivered insightful presentations on various aspects of mineral processing and equipment, covering:

Screening: Shawn Faba, Product Manager – Screening Media, discussed vibrating, interstage screens, and trommels, emphasising the critical aspects of screening technology.

Mill Liner Philosophy for Mill Circuits: Kagiso Molefe, Product Specialist – Comminution. and Junior Madjani, Senior Sales Engineer – Rubber, provided insights into grinding mills, design tools, and liner considerations to optimise milling operations.

The Audit Team: Kagiso Molefe explained the significance of audits in optimising milling operations through systematic data analysis and condition monitoring.

Dewatering Technologies - Solid-Liquid Separation: Khathutshelo Mutshinyalo, Process Manager – Solid/Liquid Separation and Water Treatment, discussed pressure filtration and centrifuge dewatering technologies.

Recovery: Khathutshelo highlighted effective water treatment methods and their importance in industrial processes.

Cost-Effective Solutions to Wear Linings: Livion Mbewe, Senior Sales Engineer, provided insights into using advanced materials like alumina ceramics to enhance wear linings' durability and efficiency.

Classification cyclones in milling circuits: Blane Pillai, Applications Engineer, and Richard Haydon, Product Specialist – Cyclones, shared knowledge on optimising cyclone performance in milling circuits.

Gravity Concentration – Carbon Degrit Using Spirals: Zoe Ilunga, Senior Applications Engineer, highlighted the role of spirals in degritting carbon and improving gold recovery processes.

The Importance of Sampling: Blane Pillai emphasised the role of accurate sampling in mineral processing and gold industry operations.

Multotec Slurry Pumps: Zoe Ilunga introduced the capabilities and benefits of Multotec slurry pumps.

Networking and Participant Feedback: The seminar concluded with a networking session where attendees discussed issues and expressed interest in site visits from the Multotec team for further assessment and problem-solving.
