Shift operator promoted to production supervisor
Mokete started at Multotec Rubber as a shift operator in 2007, before being promoted in June 2020. “It was quite a journey to get to where I am today”, Mokete recalls.
From 2016 – 2017, Mokete attended the Polymer Compound Manufacturing NQF L2, which he says was “challenging but fun,” and he reports that he enjoyed being in class.
He explained that his completion of the course was made possible through hard work and support from the Multotec skills and development team (led by Janine James) and his mentor, Aron Malepe.
In 2018, Mokete decided to further his education through additional Multotec learnerships and went on to complete Polymer Compound Manufacturing Levels 3 and 4. He then completed the Manufacturing and Assembly Operations Supervisions Learnership. “I feel proud to have been selected and to have had the opportunity to study again,” he says.
He says the L4 was more challenging because more research was required, and he still had his usual work to do. In June 2020, Multotec Rubber had a vacancy for a production supervisor; he applied and got the position.
“Through God and with support from the skills and development team and my mentor, Thando Mbatha, I made it. I obtained the National Qualification in Manufacturing and Assembly Operations Supervisions NQF L4 as well as a promotion,” says Mokete. “Throughout those challenging moments, I learnt valuable lessons and skills, which allow me to lead a team, effectively communicate with this team, resolve conflicts and make sure that daily production plans are met as required,” he concludes.
