Reflecting on the Positive Impact of 2021

During the past year we have experienced significant change and uncertainty. The compounding effect of the pandemic on the present inequality, poverty and unemployment has further challenged the Socio-Economic Development (SED) of the country.

For us to resolve these challenges and reach the most vulnerable communities, we need the collective effort of the country’s goverment, businesses and community groups. It is not an easy task but the one that we must embrace. 

Despite a demanding and uncertain year, there have been several worthwhile community development activities that took place. Through our Socio-Economic Development (SED) programmes, Multotec invests in the wellbeing of its surrounding communities. Our programmes align with our core focus, of being part of the growth and change that we want to see in our communities. 

During 2021, we continued our work with the different Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) that operate within the community. We partnered with these NPOs to conduct community needs-assessments, to understand the developmental priorities within the communities where we operate and to enable us to reach a broader community. 

We are addressing the issue of poverty of underprivileged children through Sekusile Ekhaya Labantwana, based in Daveyton, and Thandanani which is situated in Johannesburg. Working with these organisations, Multotec was able to provide food security to more than 500 children. These two centres work with schools and vulnerable families to make sure that children do not need to worry about where their next meal will come from. Multotec is ensuring that children have their nutritional needs met so that they can focus on achieving their educational goals. 

The Little Eden wheelchair campaign invites CEOs to spend one working day in a wheelchair, to experience some first-hand  challenges faced by individuals who rely on daily use of a wheelchair to address their mobility needs. The impact of the campaign stretches beyond the day spent in a wheelchair, as it prompts Multotec to rethink the design and layout of its office spaces, and how these spaces could be enhanced and customised to suit the needs of a person using a wheelchair. The campaign takes place during March, which is Intellectual Disability Awareness month. Multotec has been participating in this campaign since its inception in 2018. 

Koketso Mokoena, an angel that we adopted from Little Eden, turned 12 years last year. Although visitors were not permitted due to Covid-19 protocols, we delivered a cake and a gift for her as we believe that every child has a right to be happy and be celebrated. Mighty Kings Football Club, in Soshanguve, sent a big “THANK YOU” to Multotec for their very generous donation of a brand-new football kit, footballs, cones, water bottles and much more. We spent some time with the team during the handover of the new kit, and had fun testing our ball skills with the team.

We continued our support for education, on the basis that education is a powerful resource to promote social and economic progress within our communities. Education promotes personal and financial independence and enhances individual potential to make a difference. That is why Multotec leaders are continuing to serve the community by partnering with school principals, providing the principals with support and a space to be heard.

We spread love to the communities of Middelburg, Kathu, Limpopo and Kwazulu-Natal. Multotec made a difference to Kathu Primary School with a donation of sanitiser, benefitting the school’s 1 900 learners.  

Since March 2021, House of Shalom children’s home in Kwazulu-Natal receives a monthly donation of 48 kilograms of gas. The donation of gas makes it possible for the home to prepare warm and wholesome meals for its 50 beneficiaries.  

Books, a computer and a television were donated to Manyano Primary School in Middelburg. We also contributed to the extension of their library, to accommodate more learners. Education is our Future assisted us to source books for the library. 

Multotec, together with Education is Our Future, sponsored a Heritage Day Sporting Event on 24 September 2021, in the community of Dibeng Village in Ga-Matlala, Limpopo. Multotec contributed sporting equipment and refreshments for the day.
