Stacker Cyclones

Stacker cyclones from Multotec are designed for minimal wear in abrasive applications and feature the scrolled evolute inlet head design. This has the benefits of reduced vortex finder wear and higher capacity compared to other inlet configurations.

These cyclones, part of Multotec’s range of classification cyclones, are ideally suited to applications where maximum underflow densities are required and the tonnage of solids handled by the spigot fluctuates.

Stacker Cyclone configuration

The Multotec’s stacker configuration includes the flapper valve, rubber-lined overflow elbow and air-bleed/vacuum gauge arrangement. All rubber lined and polyurethane cyclones can be supplied in a stacker cyclone configuration. In addition to these benefits, Multotec stacker cyclones:

  • Are designed to reduce wear in abrasive applications
  • Have vortex finders cast in abrasion resistant polyurethane for increased longevity
  • Provide the option of polyurethane or natural rubber flapper valves
  • Have steel rubber lined or lightweight HDPE overflow elbow

The importance of flapper valves

Multotec's stacker cyclone

The most important design aspect of the stacker cyclone is its flapper valve. The cyclone overflow pipe creates a siphon effect which closes the flapper valve, drawing up excess water from solids discharged through the flapper valve.

The stacker cyclone is designed to be installed with an overflow pipe that creates a siphon effect. This closes the flapper valve and draws up the excess water from solids that are discharged through the flapper valve.

Stacker cyclone accessories

Multotec's stacker cyclone air break assembly

A stacker cyclone accessory developed by Multotec is the stacker cyclone vacuum air break assembly (VABA).

Designed for effective stacker cyclone operation, VABA allows plant personal to control the vacuum necessary for effective cyclone operation. This is achieved with an adjustable control valve. In addition to this, using VABA in your cyclone application offers several benefits:

  • Complete control over vacuum air supply
  • Non-return control valve for optimised air supply
  • Easy to understand control mechanism
  • Simplified designs for easy installation
  • Various pipe diameters available depending on cyclone diameter used

The scrolled evolute inlet design: the heart of the Multotec cyclone range!

Through extensive testing and simulations, Multotec has proven that the scrolled evolute design has a higher capacity when compared to other inlet configurations. This design substantially reduces vortex finder wear, ultimately reducing operating costs while maximising cyclone efficiency!

Multotec equipment is installed in 100 countries. Speak to a Multotec consultant today about a mill circuit cyclone tailored to your specific application requirements.
